OPERA San Antonio is excited to announce auditions for: chorus roles in Madama Butterfly, comprimario (small) roles throughout the year, and community event performing opportunities for the 24/25 Season. Below you will find the official audition notice with details including dates, times, and location information.

Audition Requirements:
Members of both companies' staff will be eagerly waiting to hear your audition. Please prepare two contrasting selections, one of which should be in Italian and one piece also needs to be an aria. Auditioners will be asked to sing one piece and the panel may possibly request a second. A pianist will be provided, so ensure your music is in the appropriate key and in a binder. This year, we are also asking auditioners to fill out an audition form. Please print it and bring it with you to the auditions. While not mandatory, bringing a recent headshot and resume is encouraged.

One Show, Two Cities:
Experience the thrill of performing Madama Butterfly not just once but in two vibrant cultural hubs – San Antonio and Austin.
Unified Chorus and Production:
Join a dedicated and talented chorus that will travel and perform in both cities, ensuring a consistent and exceptional production.
E. Loren Meeker will direct the production, with Momo and Kevin Suzuki as cultural and movement advisors. Loren will oversee the production process at both companies.
Francesco Milioto will conduct the performances at OSA. Timothy Myers will conduct the performances at Austin Opera.
Dottie Randall will lead the music and staging rehearsals in San Antonio and oversee the OSA performances. Cina Crisara will take the lead in Austin.
This collaboration promises to be an exciting artistic experience, combining the strengths and talents of both opera companies.

Choristers will be paid $15 per hour for rehearsals, $125 per performance, and a $300 travel stipend. The Madama Butterfly Chorus will perform in San Antonio and Austin.
Auditioners will have the opportunity to be considered for the rest of Austin Opera’s 24/25 Season along with small role and community event casting opportunities at both companies.
