Opera San Antonio Announces 2021-22 Season
Upcoming season will feature “Don Giovanni,” a first-ever gala and “Rigoletto”

The 2021-22 season of Opera San Antonio could be viewed as a makeup of sorts as the organization reschedules productions that were canceled due to the pandemic.
However, says general and artistic director E. Loren Meeker, the upcoming slate of performances and programs is much more than simply a do-over for the nonprofit that never went dormant during COVID-19.
“What I love about this season is I feel like there’s something for everyone,” Meeker says. “What we discovered, which was out of necessity, is that there can be power in a shorter format.”
To start, Opera San Antonio is taking its Explore Opera series onto the stage. The program, which was developed and first presented with San Antonio Public Library during COVID-19, is an online video education series for children. This season, it will expand to include a live performance, scheduled Aug. 7 in the park at Landa Library.
Next, the nonprofit will present Don Giovanni Oct. 7 and 9 at the Tobin Center. The 90-minute performance is one that Meeker says is ideal for those experiencing their first opera as well as for long-time opera fans who are looking for an action-packed show.
