The Children's Chorus of San Antonio

For Tosca, OPERA San Antonio will continue its partnership and collaboration with the Children’s Chorus of San Antonio. There will be 12 child-choristers in Tosca, including a soloist, who will perform the Shepherd Boy in Act III.

The Children’s Chorus was founded in 1983 by Marguerite McCormick. It is now under the Artistic Director of Dr. Gary Mabry, long-time Professor of Music at UTSA.

The Children’s Chorus first performed with OPERA San Antonio with a wonderful chorus in Carmen in 2016. In Macbeth in 2017, they were part of the mixed chorus of war-weary refugees, and also the witches’ chorus. It was Children’s Chorus member Veronica Takach who sang the role of the “Bloody Child” who tells Macbeth he cannot be killed by a “man born of woman.” Most recently the Children’s Chorus was part of a more festive scene, the Café Momus scene in La Boheme in 2018.

The Shepherd Boy will be selected by the conductor of Tosca, Maestro Francesco Milioto, at an audition before the beginning of rehearsals.
