OPERA San Antonio’s production of Don Giovanni

San Antonio, TX, September 30, 2021 - OPERA San Antonio (OSA) today announced that its production of Mozart’s Don Giovanni will be performed as scheduled on October 7 and 9.

Despite the strike announced by the Musicians of the San Antonio Symphony, the production of Don Giovanni will move forward, using the distinguished pianist Mario Marra and other musicians to be announced. The distinguished cast and creative team of Don Giovanni have been in rehearsal and are fully prepared to give San Antonio a first-rate performance of live music.

OSA is an independent non-profit which hires San Antonio Symphony (SAS) to provide musicians for OSA performances. OSA is not the employer of the musicians, and the current strike by the Musicians of the San Antonio Symphony is not against OSA.

Representatives of the American Federation of Musicians (AFM) and the Musicians of the San Antonio Symphony have declined OSA’s offer to engage their artists for the production of Don Giovanni. OSA’s objective has been to provide work for artists within its capabilities, and OSA is deeply disappointed there is not a path forward to engage the musicians now.

OSA wants San Antonio to know how committed OSA is to presenting Don Giovanni despite the obvious obstacles and challenges. OSA is urging the community to come to support them and to experience Mozart’s wonderful masterpiece.

Don Giovanni will be performed at the Tobin Center Thursday, October 7 at 7:00, and Saturday, October 9 at 7:30. Tickets are available at the opera website operasa.org and at the Tobin Center box office and website.
